How long will it take for my application to be processed?
It may take as little as two weeks for an application to be processed depending upon submission of official transcripts, teaching certificates, GRE/MAT scores, professional growth plan, etc. Personnel in Enrollment Services begin processing admissions applications within 48 hours of their receipt.
How am I notified of my admission status?
Personnel in Enrollment Services will notify you in writing concerning your admission status. The admission process is facilitated when all required information is submitted at or near the same time.
Are the classes face-to-face or online?
Some class activities are face-to-face while others are completed online. In all classes candidates will be learning about research-based theories, instructional activities, and practices and then will have opportunities to implement and evaluate them in their own schools and classrooms.
How will I be evaluated?
Attainment of teacher leader skills will be evaluated in a number of ways including exams, class projects, and the completion of a capstone project.
What is the capstone project?
The capstone project is a the program culminating experience required to be completed by all candidates. Candidates will be encouraged to present their capstone projects in settings that are most appropriate for their projects. For example, candidates who are working on a school improvement project may present their findings before the SBDM council. Other candidates may have projects that are more appropriate for a presentation before the Board of Education, while others may find the best setting to be a professional learning community comprised of others most impacted by the project.
How long does it take to complete the TL degree?
Length of time to complete the degree is dependent on many factors. Areas of specialization require from 30 to 36 hours to complete. Additionally, because candidates will be completing projects in their own schools and classrooms, the varying nature of the projects will impact the time required to complete the program. Finally, the TL program is designed to have a long-lasting impact on candidates professional careers. Therefore, linking a candidates professional development completed in the schools and the TL coursework is critical.
What Kentucky teaching rank will I have when I complete the program?
Most candidates who enter the program with a bachelor’s degree (Rank III) will finish with either a master’s degree or fifth year. This leads to Rank II. Candidates who choose to pursue National Board Certification may complete the program with Rank I.
