US Department of Education Information on No Child Left Behind (NCLB), resources and lesson plans for teachers, student loan cancellation or deferment and more.

Kentucky Department of Education  Numerous instructional resources are available here, including Core Content, Learning Goals and Academic Expectations, Program of Studies, a Combined Curriculum Document that aligns the foregoing, and Teaching Tools.

Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board Once you create an account, you can view your certifications, track KTIP progress and sign reports (as resource teacher or intern), and more. Information about teacher preparation, supervision, and certification in Kentucky is available from the main page.

KyEducators.org Online learning and professional development opportunities for teachers, sponsored by the Education Professional Standards Board (EPSB) and Kentucky Virtual University.

Teaching Tips Contains myriad useful tips, including learning names quickly, learning theories, dealing with difficult behavior, effective use of questioning, assessment, motivating students, rejuvenating yourself, and more.

Tips for Teachers  Includes everything from getting a teaching job to how do it well. A treasure trove of useful information.

Edutopia Site sponsored by the George Lucas Educational Foundation (GLEF). GLEF supports innovative education, advocating collaborative, project-based, integrated learning. Information on topics like project-based learning, assessment, multiple intelligences. Newsletter and videos are available.

A to Z Teacher Stuff Lesson plans, discussion boards, and tips for all levels, all subjects. Has special links (under "Specialties," on the left side) for counseling, early childhood, special ed, and vocational ed.

Education World Has lesson plans, tips for technology integration and more.

Educator's Reference Desk Resource guides include lists of websites of interest to educators, by topic and area (from counseling and school psychology to assessment, librarianship, and more). Also contains lesson plans from Art to Vocational Education that can be browsed or searched by level and topic.

ReadingQuest Strategies for teaching reading comprehension.  Focus is on social studies, but can be used in many disciplines.

ReadWriteThink Tremendous site for language arts. Contains IRA & NCTE standards, lessons, and student materials searchable by topic and grade level. Web resources page  is wide ranging and excellent.

Candlelight Stories  Children's stories online. Some narrated and/or animated.

Writing.Com  After creating an account, students can submit stories.

Carol Hurst's Children's Literature Site Excellent reviews of children's books, with content connections and activity suggestions.

Internet TESL Journal Practical, no-nonsense links to a wealth of material for ESL/EFL teachers.

EverythingESL K-12 ESL tips and web resources from an experienced ESL teacher (Judie Haynes). Some lesson plans are provided.

Appalachian Math Science Partnership Some useful core content summaries, but much of the site is difficult to navigate and undeveloped.

Math Goodies Has resources for parents, teachers, and students. Includes free online homework help, customizable worksheets, and much more.

ERIC Clearinghouse on Disabilities and Gifted Education (ERICEC) Contains information for teachers and parents of gifted and/or disabled students.

Council for Exceptional Children (CEC)  Contains online and print resources for special education.

Technology & Media

Innovative Teachers Home Page Sponsored by Microsoft, this site includes age appropriate software tutorials, lesson plans, and more.

Education World How-to's, lesson plans, and articles on Technology in the Classroom.

Library/Content Resources

Great Websites for Kids Hosted by the American Library Association (ALA), this site lists websites by topic. Database is searchable and sites are rated for age-appropriate surfing. 

Enchanted Learning Contains topics of interest to (K-6) students (from animals to geology and more) and resources for teachers (graphic organizers, writing/essay activities, lesson ideas, research paper topics and rubrics, and worksheets). Full access is available by subscription, but sample pages are available free of charge.

Education Resources Information Center (ERIC)  Searchable database of education (journal and non-journal) literature published since 1966. Many articles cited are available in full-text free of charge.

Library of Congress  Tremendous multi-media resource for children, teachers, families seeking information on United States cultural/historical matters. Can be a bit overwhelming, so go with a clear idea of what you need (unless you have boundless curiosity and plenty of time).

Copyright-free ('Public Domain') Images

Teacher Tap: Images for Projects  A quality list of online sites for images of all sorts. Also includes links to royalty-free music and text sources.

Wikipedia's Public Domain Web Resource List  A massive list of resources, arranged by topic.

PD Photo.org  More random entries, but has some stunning 'place' photos (Ireland, Arizona, etc.)

Funding Opportunities for Teachers

US Department of Education Grants

Scholastic - Grants & Funding Hosted by scholastic.com, this includes numerous resources for grantwriting and fundraising, by discipline and grade level.

Schoolgrants Good general info on federal and state grants, as well as grant-writing 'how-to's'. Site is not entirely up-to-date and several links don't work correctly.

Foundation Center Excellent site that indexes foundations and corporate giving programs in numerous fields. Free searches and grantwriting information is available.

Online Funding Resources from Castle Technology Consultants  Varied links to government and private programs funding educational needs, as well as other sites that provide grant/funding/proposal advice.

New Teacher Resources

Tips for New Teachers Sponsored by the Vermont-National Education Association, this site includes tips on setting positive tone in the classroom, establishing rapport with parents, and professionalism. Some material is Vermont-specific.

Kentucky Teacher Internship Program (KTIP) Pilot Contains information on the change to the new Teacher Work Sample (TWS), including a rationale and timeline for its implementation.

Inspiring Teachers  Great resources for mentoring new teachers and supervising student teachers.

Kentucky Department of Education  Numerous administrative resources are here, including Standards and Indicators for School Improvement [SISI] and information on Comprehensive Planning, Building Management, Health and Nutrition Services, Grant Opportunities, Professional Development, and Leadership and Evaluation.

Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board  Info on how to become a principal can be found here. Access to the Intern Management System and more is available for administrators who create an account.

Praxis Tests at a Glance  Are your students learning what they need to know to pass the Praxis? See what's covered on the tests, by level and discipline. Also includes Kentucky test requirements (and passing scores).

Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board  Information about teacher certification is available for those working with preservice teachers. Also, KTIP teacher educators create an account to digitally sign reports in the Intern Management System.
