STAFF CONGRESS MINUTES

Chair White called the meeting to order at 1:03 p.m. A quorum was present.
Chair White asked for approval of the minutes from the September 11, 2006 meeting.

||Chair White reported that he has spoken with Kennetha King regarding flu shots for this year. Tentatively flu shots are scheduled for the following dates: October 31 in ADUC 312, November 2 in ADUC 301, November 7 in ADUC 301 and November 14 in ADUC 301. Presently they are scheduled to be given from 9am-4pm. Flu shots will be given at Physical Plant on November 9 from 2pm - 5pm, However they ask that Physical Plant workers try to go to one of the dates they are given in ADUC first. Rep. Jessie asked if spouses would be able to get these as well. Chair White stated he would have to check with Kennetha and get back to Staff Congress on that. Chair White also reported that Tom Kmetz in the library had contacted him regarding an online survey the library is currently taking. Chair White asked that everyone take a few minutes to go online to complete this survey. Chair White also reported that he has spoke with VP Walters last week regarding health insurance. He presented Staff Congress with a report showing what the current rates are and what rates will be for 2007. According to VP Walters all plans will see a increase in premiums. However rates will not go into effect until July 2007. Also all plans will remain the same as far as coverage goes. Chair White asked that Staff Congress schedule a special meeting next Monday, October 9 with VP Walters and Suzanne Hogge from Human Resources to discuss health insurance plans and rates for 2007.
||Vice-Chair James reported that he had scheduled the Parliamentary Procedures workshop for this Wednesday, October 4 in ADUC 312. He also stated that he had invited Faculty Senate to attend. This workshop will cover basic parliamentary procedures.
||Secretary Reported that for the month of September $62.06 was spent on refreshments for monthly meeting. This leaves Staff Congress will a supply balance of $2,744.62.
|Credentials and Elections
||Rep. LaFontaine reported that the committee had met twice to discuss revisions of by-laws. She turned the floor over to Rep. Snedegar to discuss this further. Rep. Snedegar reported that the committee has finished revising the by-laws and are presently working on the constitution. They will then be working on the Regent election and officer elections after they have completed revisions on the constitution.
|University Standing Appointments
||Rep. Sammons reported that there are still vacancies for Skilled Crafts category. She has asked Phyllis Dehart for a printout of all employees listing which category they fall under. This is being done so the committee will be more able to contact employees to see if they are interested in serving on committees with vacancies.
||Rep. Harr reported that the committee had met with VP Walters to discuss the pay raises for January. As of this meeting pay raises will be given in January 2007.
|Personnel Policies and Benefits
||Rep. King reported that the Ad-Hoc Committee is waiting for recommendations from the Credentials and Elections Committee.
Regent Pace reported that the Board of Regents had their quarterly meeting in September. Applications for next year's Presidential Leadership Academy are currently being accepted. The deadline for applications is November 1. The Board of Regents was presented with updates on Datatel, background checks and enrollment. As far as enrollment presently we have 9,102 our projected enrollment was 9,300, which is what this year's budget was based up on. However there was no discussion about budget cuts due to the lower than expected enrollment numbers.
No old business was brought forth.
Rep. Allen stated the their was a vacancy on the Technical/Paraprofessional category and that her office would like to nominate Mary Jerde for this vacancy. Rep. LaFontaine stated that Mary's name had already been submitted for this vacancy.
Rep. Colvin asked if Staff Congress members could have access via e-mail or internet to the document Chair White passed around from Human Resources regarding health insurance. Rep. Sammons stated that the document may be online for staff viewing. She stated that the Employee Benefits Committee asked that this document as well as a document showing how MSU compared with other state universities be placed online for employees to view. Chair White stated that he would contact Human Resources and see if they can forward a copy of the document to Staff Congress members. Rep. Sammons stated that if she can get a copy of it from Suzanne Hogge she will e-mail it to Staff Congress members.
Rep. James announced that Homecoming festivities will begin next week. The following is some of the activities taking place next week:
Thursday, October 12 - Homecoming Parade, Main Street - 6 p.m.
Friday, October 13 - Alumni Welcome Reception, ADUC, 3rd floor - 6-9 p.m.
Saturday, October 14 - Athletic Hall of Fame Breakfast, Commonwealth Room, ADUC - 8:30-10:00 a.m.
Saturday, October 14 - Eagles vs Davidson, Jayne Stadium - 1 p.m.
Rep. James announced that Day at the Races will be held on Sunday, October 29. If you ride the bus tickets are $28. If you drive yourself tickets are $23.
Rep. James announced that a post card was sent out to everyone announce the first Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year award. Anyone interested in voting for Coach Ballard can go to www.CoachOfTheYear.com to vote. By voting you are entered into a sweepstakes for a chance to win a trip for four to the 2007 Rose Bowl Game in Pasadena, California.
Rep. Harr announced that the cheerleading practice room would be named for Myron Doan in a ceremony on the Saturday of homecoming at 11 a.m.
Our next meeting is Monday, November 6 at 1:00 p.m.
