BUILDING MAINTENANCE

Building Maintenance is responsible for the maintenance and operations of campus buildings and utilities. This area performs two kinds of maintenance - preventative and corrective. Preventive maintenance is scheduled on a periodic basis and includes cleaning, painting, lubricating, inspecting, and adjusting building and ground systems to prevent failure and problems. Corrective maintenance is repair of replacement or defective or malfunctioning components.

Supervisor is Todd Thacker, Building Maintenance Superintendent.

BUILDING SERVICES

Building Services is responsible for performing duties necessary for cleaning and maintaining an assigned facility. These duties include collecting trash, dusting, restroom cleaning and supplies, light bulb replacement, carpet and floor care, repairs and delivers fire extinguishers, etc. Building Services is broken into two sections - Residential Facilities and Education/General Facilities. This department consists of approximately 60 full-time employees and 40 temporary employees working in 3 shifts.

ENERGY CONSERVATION

The Energy Conservation Manager plans, implements, and coordinates all phases of the energy conservation programs throughout the University community. Responsibilities include community awareness, education, and motivation towards recycling and energy conservation. The manager also analyzing energy use on campus and implements conservation projects utilizing an updated computerized energy management system.

ENGINEERING SERVICES

Engineering Services plans, implements and coordinates construction projects affecting University facilities and grounds and supervises the construction crew. The construction crew constructs and repairs structural woodwork and equipment on the university campus. Duties include basic construction/renovation work, sidewalk repair, floor tile installation, roof repair/renovation, cabinetwork, drywall work, painting, etc. Engineering Services also prepare estimates, construction drawings, specifications and bid documents for construction.

Supervisor is Steve Leitz, Engineering Services Superintendent.

GENERAL SERVICES

General Services performs any combination of duties required to meet the needs and demands of the Office of Facilities Management. Duties include garbage collection, freight deliveries, moving furniture and equipment, setting up for special events and any other duties assigned by the General Serviceworker Supervisor.

HEATING AND WATER PLANT FACILITIES

The Heating and Water Plant maintains the production of steam and bacteriologically free and potable water for human consumption in accordance with the laws of the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

LANDSCAPING AND GROUNDS

Landscaping and grounds maintain the campus grounds by performing a combination of tasks necessary in order to provide for an attractive and safe campus setting. Duties include sweeping sidewalks and streets, mowing, tree and shrub maintenance, maintaining flowerbeds, sidewalks, parking lots and drainage ditches, and other groundskeeping duties.

MOTOR POOL

Morehead State University maintains a motor pool of state and university vehicles consisting of sedans, vans, and buses. Scheduling of these vehicles must be made by utilization of the Travel Request form. Maintenance of these vehicles are performed by two full-time mechanics to insure proper performance and safety.

PEST CONTROL

The Pest Controller identifies types of pests that infest buildings and surrounding areas on campus and determine proper solutions and/or traps needed to exterminate them. The pest controller schedules routine sprays for preventative care.

RECYCLING

The Recycling Manager plans, implements, and coordinates all phases of the recycling programs throughout the University community. Responsibilities include community awareness, education, and motivation towards recycling.

WAREHOUSE

The Warehouse is responsible for receiving, transporting, shipping, maintaining warehouse stock and issuance of warehouse materials and equipment to Facilities Management employees. The Warehouse also constructs campus signs, and picks up and delivers supplies to off campus facilities.

WORK CONTROL CENTER

The Work Control Center prepares and issues campus work orders and maintains radio dispatch activity to contact Facilities Management employees. Motor Pool vehicle requests and scheduling are also processed by this department along with all motor pool records and regulations.
