About Developmental Placement Testing

Incoming students whose ACT subtest scores fall below the state College Readiness Standards (see the table below) are required to take a placement test in those areas.  

Required Placement Testing

English

Math

Reading

ACT

Less than 18

Less than 19

Less than 20

SAT

Writing score less than 450

Math score less than 460

Critical Reading score less than 470

The purpose of placement testing is to assist the student and the University in ensuring that the student is placed in the course level that is appropriate to maximize success.

The Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education requires placement testing for all new entering college students whose ACT subtest scores are below the designated college readiness standards in English, Math or Reading.

Students with ACT subtest scores below these standards must take the required placement test for each developmental subject area before classes begin each term.

The COMPASS placement tests are administered through MSU's Testing Center. The Testing Center will be administering the COMPASS tests on the following dates and at the following times in Combs 312.

April 4th     1-4pm

April 8th     1-4pm

April 11th   1-4pm

May 2nd    1-4pm
