Meetings - Fall 2011
Meetings: Our weekly meetings are held on TUESDAYS at 5 p.m. in the Riggle Room in ADUC and WEDNESDAYS at 5 p.m. in the Eagle Dining Room in ADUC.
Due to class schedules, the room will be open before 5 p.m. and we will always have some people who come early to hang out and discuss issues, so please feel free to stop by early, or be a little late.
What we do at meetings:
Our meetings consist of
ACTION (strategic planning for events, budgets, organizational issues, public relations & marketing, etc.) Everyone is welcome to attend, as your input is needed for the direction of the group! This would be a great meeting to attend if you would like to work on a committee, help decorate, write letters/cards, news updates, etc.
We also focus on
EDUCATION/AWARENESS at meetings. Based on your feedback, these will be somewhat of a hybrid of social/academic discussion in which we will investigate queer theory & the experiences of LGBTQQIA people as addressed in narratives, film, activism and empirical study (experimental observations). We will be exploring sexual identities and how they intersect with race, class, gender, etc. and we will include individual identity, family, media representation, heterosexism and LGBTQ social movements. We have several topics and movies you have requested – so we’ll continue to build that list, including articles or chapters and discussions! We will have a list of resources and a schedule of the topics we're discussing for the semester online, so you can participate and stay up-to-date in case you have to miss a meeting.
Minutes for meetings:
Notes for meetings are recorded by the ALLYance secretary. If you would like a copy of the notes, please request them at the meeting or send us an e-mail.
