Biography:
Dr. John Viton, Associate Professor of Music at Morehead State University, holds the DMA, MMA, and MM from Yale University, and the BM from Bowling Green State University. Primary oboe teachers include Robert Bloom, Ronald Roseman, and John Bentley. At MSU, Dr. Viton teaches Applied Oboe, and Music Theory, is Coordinator of the Music Theory Program, and oboist in the Baird Winds, the resident faculty woodwind quintet at MSU. Formerly Principal Oboe of the Columbus (GA) Symphony Orchestra and Professor of Music at Columbus College (now Columbus State University, Dr. Viton has also performed in the Lexington Philharmonic Orchestra, the Huntington Symphony Orchestra, and various chamber music ensembles throughout the region. Active as an adjudicator and clinician, Dr. Viton has been the featured oboe artist at Double Reed Days at Marshall University and Bowling Green State University. He has participated in the Festival International d’Evian in Evian, France, the Bach Aria Institute and Festival at the State University of New York, Stony Brook, and the Yale Summer School of Music and Art in Norfolk, Connecticut. Dr. Viton was an Artist/Teacher at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Michigan for ten summers and was recently inducted into the Fremont (OH) Ross High School Music Hall of Fame.
