David "Honeyboy" Edwards" (1925 - 2011)
 
Legendary Delta bluesman David "Honeyboy" Edwards passed away on August 29, 2011 at his home in Chicago. Edwards was 96 years old at the time of his passing. Known as a pioneer of Delta Blues, Edwards made several pre-WWII recordings and was a close associate of Robert Johnson. Born in Shaw, Mississippi in 1915, Honeyboy left his home at the age of 14 to travel and perform with Big Joe Williams. His recording career began in 1942 when famed folklorist Alan Lomax recorded him in Clarksdale, Mississippi for the Library of Congress. His prolific recording career includes numerous releases for many labels including Sun, Chess, Folkways, Evidence, Blue Horizon, APO, Wolf and Earwig Records. David Honeyboy Edwards received two Grammy Music Awards, two Blues Music Awards and was inducted in the Blues Hall Of Fame. Edwards also received a fellowship from The National Endowment for the Arts.
