2011 Canadian Parliamentary Interns
Four Morehead State students were among the class of 37 students from 13 U.S. states and 3 foreign countries who participated in the 5 week Summer 2011 Canadian Parliamentary Internship Program in Ottawa, Canada’s capital city.
Standing in front of Canadian provincial flags, the MSU Canadian interns from left to right are Joseph Stockham, a senior Government major; Jonathan Fannin, a senior Philosophy major; Zachary Golleher, a junior Government major; and Meredith York, a senior Communications major.
In preparation for their internships, they took a Canadian Politics seminar this spring semester from Dr. William Green, Professor of Government. Each MSU intern received a $937 Canadian Studies Scholarship provided by the MSU Office of Financial Aid and School of Public Affairs.
Each student was assigned to the office of a Member of Parliament (MP) Zachary Golleher will intern with MP Laurie Hahn; Joseph Stockham with MP Claude Gravelle; Meredith York with MP Wayne Marston; and Jonathan Fannin with MP Linda Duncan.
In Ottawa, the interns participated in a variety of parliamentary activities. They accompanied their MP to committee meetings, party caucuses, and press conferences. In their MP’s office, they answered constituency mail, drafted press releases, and researched current policy issues.
