 SNAP Training

SNAP is an excellent tool for anyone who wants to design, distribute, and analyze their own survey. To assist you, IRA provides training materials to help you explore SNAP’s capabilities. SNAP documentation will help you with the design and analysis of your survey, whether you want to do your survey on the WEB or on paper.

Before you begin your survey, be sure to familiarize yourself with the Institutional Review Board website at:  http://www2.moreheadstate.edu/rgc/secure/index.aspx?id=6943 )
Please be aware that you are solely responsible for contacting the IRB prior to making any survey available for participant response.

If you wish to inform the campus community regarding your survey, then you will need to review Information Technology’s guidelines for sending mass e-mail at: http://www2.moreheadstate.edu/it/index.aspx?id=9881
OIRA does not make mass e-mail arrangements for you.

To begin working on your SNAP survey, you will need access to the software.
• To be given access to SNAP, you must be MSU faculty or staff with a valid MSU ID. Graduate students may use SNAP with faculty supervision.
• Call our office at 783-9555 to request access. Be sure to have your your MSU ID number ready. Once you have been approved, you will receive the access procedure.

Training material:
If you are considering using SNAP, it is a good idea to look over the training materials, so you can better evaluate the level of difficulty involved. All of the training items are available for you to download and review at your convenience, with or without access to the SNAP software. Whether you chose to do a WEB-based survey or a paper survey, the Survey Checklist OIRA has provided from Angelo State University of San Angelo, Texas can help guide you through the thinking process.

SNAP 9 Training is available at:

If you plan to do a WEB survey, please see our technical documentation to show you how to configure e-mail to receive your survey responses.

Given your level of experience, difficulty of the design, and the timeframe, you may wish to have OIRA prepare your survey. If you would like our office to design, implement, and analyze your survey for you, please review our fee schedule for survey assistance and call our office at 783-9555.

If you choose to use SNAP on your own, be aware that OIRA will only be available to assist you in a limited manner.
