2007 – 2008 Student Government Association
Student Commitment to a Sustainable Campus 

Whereas:

The Student Government Association of Morehead State University works to provide a voice and unity for the students of Morehead State University

Whereas:

Morehead State University seeks to be ranked as the top public university in the south

Whereas:

The students of Morehead State University have expressed significance concern for energy conservation through sustainable practices

Whereas:

This body has found the above mentioned to be of extraordinary significance to the students of Morehead State University and our community

Be it Resolved:

The Student Government Association of Morehead State University fully supports the following sustainable practices for the advancement of our institution, such as, but not limited to, the following: 

- Commit a budget for Energy Conservation measures

- Pursue LEED Building Certification during renovations

- Sign the American College & University Presidents Climate Commitment   

   To reduce carbon emissions

- Installation of Green Rooftops

- Diversifyication of energy sources to include sustainable alternatives

- Implementation of a hybrid fleet

- Implementation of  Include organic farming practices at the Dickerson Derrickson Complex

- Integrateion of an environmental component to the MSU 101 course.

- Expand the use of native plants and trees on campus

- Make the campus more bicycle and pedestrian friendly

- Update the Energy Assessment last completed in 2002

Implement Personal Energy Conservation campaign through University Marketing

- Encourageing the university community to engage in environmental

   service activities

- Fill the Energy Conservation Manager position, reporting to

   Vice President Walters

- Expand Recycling locations and visibility on campus

- Use of sustainable office supplies; paper products

- Commitment to buy local and sustainable products when possible
