                                        Faculty Senate Minutes for Leadership Retreat 
                                                                Hampton Inn 
                                                                Morehead, KY 
                                                                August 16, 2012

Call to Order:

Call to order: 8:40 am; Hampton Inn, Morehead, KY

Senators Absent: Lesia Lennex

Senate secretary Janet Skidmore was unable to attend the retreat and meeting.

Chair Sharp welcomed the returning and new members to the Senate Retreat. She thanked all the members for their hard work and accomplishments over the last year.

Chair Sharp and Ann Rathbun reviewed the accomplishments of the Senate from last year. The past Executive Council presented the issues for the coming year.

Small Group Breakout Sessions were held to discuss Current Faculty Senate Issues.
• Senator Chatham met with the new Senators to talk about the various Senate committees.
• The past Executive Council met with the returning Senators in small groups to discuss the issues for the coming year.

The Senators came back together to set an agenda for the year.

The Senate began the first regular meeting of the semester.

Call to order:

Call to order: 11:05 am; Hampton Inn, Morehead, KY

Senators Absent: Lesia Lennex

Outgoing Chair, Kimberlee Sharp thanked the returning members and the Executive Council for all their hard work and assistance during the past year. Chair Sharp welcomed the new members and thanked them for their willingness to serve the faculty and the University.

Outgoing Chair Sharp turned the gavel over to Chair Elect, Doug Chatham. Chair Chatham presented Chair Sharp with a plaque and gavel and thanked her for her service to the Faculty Senate.

Senate Actions:

Elections were held for the executive council. The following were elected as college representatives on the executive council: Beverly McCormick, Business and Public Affairs; Lesia Lennex, Education; Robert Royar, Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; and Ann Rathbun, Science and Technology. Cyndi Gibbs was elected to the at-large position.

Chair Chatham reminded the Senators that according to the Constitution, Beverly McCormick has been Senate Chair within the last four years and cannot serve the coming year. Cyndi Gibbs and Robert Royar withdrew their names from the ballot. Ann Rathbun and Lesia Lennex were placed on the ballot for chair elect. Ann Rathbun was elected chair elect.

Chair Chatham explained a change to the Academic Appeals Committee Description. Senator Royar asked if this an editorial revision or actually a description change. Typographical error was noted in line 4.

Senator Boram moved to suspend the rules to vote and approve the revised Academic Appeals Committee Description. Motion seconded. Motion to suspend rules and approve the revised Academic Appeals Committee Description passed.

Chair Chatham appointed Senator Royal Berglee to serve as the Communications Officer and Senator Robert Royar will serve as parliamentarian.

Chair Chatham asked any returning Senators that wanted to change their Senate Committee to let him know during lunch.

Regular meeting adjourned.

Lunch was served.

Announcements:

Next Meeting: 4:10 pm Thursday, August 30, 2012 Riggle Room of ADUC. Refreshments will be served so come a little early. Senate pictures will also be taken at the beginning of this meeting.

The Executive Council had a beautiful bouquet of flowers and the Senators signed a “We Missed You” card for the secretary who was not able to attend the retreat.

Provost Hughes spoke to the Senators about the coming year. She indicated that there are policies to finish and a strategy for the next few years needs to set. APNA is now more localized and being run by the college deans. The Provost took questions from the Senators. Faculty Welfare and Concerns would like to have a copy of the new faculty salary model the President signed.
