Faculty Senate Minutes
August 20, 2009
Call to Order:
Call to order: 4:15 pm; Riggle Room; ADUC.
Senators Absent: Ali Ahmadi, Marshall Chapman, Rebecca Miculinich
Visitors: Yvonne Baldwin, Eric Jerde, Charles Patrick
Reports:
Chair’s Report: Outgoing Chair, Cathy Thomas welcomed all new and returning members.
Outgoing Chair Thomas turned the gavel over to Chair Elect, Royal Berglee. Chair Berglee presented outgoing Chair Thomas with a plaque and gavel and thanked her for her service to the Faculty Senate.
Provost’s Report: Dr. Hughes presented a power point presentation on the reconfiguration of Academic Affairs. The framework is in place, but is still being refined. Any revisions to the framework will be brought before the Senate. Copies of the organizational charts for Academic Affairs were provided to the Senators.
Dr. Baldwin and the Governance Committee of Faculty Senate contacted possible members for the General Education Council during the summer. The slate of names will be voted on by the Senate today.
Senate Actions:
A secret ballot vote was taken to elect members of the General Education Council. The following members were elected – Dianna Murphy, Timothy Hare, Edna Schack, Becky Katz, Cyndi Gibbs, Glen Colburn, Robert Boram, Cathy Thomas, and Jennifer Birriel.
Chair Berglee asked for volunteers to serve on a Senate Constitution Work Group and a Faculty Evaluation Process/FEP Work Group.
Elections for the executive council were held. The following were elected as college representatives on the executive council: Beverly McCormick, Business; Beverly Klecker, Education; Emma Perkins, Humanities; and Doug Chatham, Science and Technology.
Verdie Craig and Terry Irons were elected for the two at-large positions.
Members of the newly elected executive council were placed on a ballot for chair elect. Beverly McCormick was elected chair elect.
Announcements:
The Senate will meet next week, August 27, 2009.
