The CDC Office of Health and Safety; Biosafety web page provides information on HHS Regulations including Interstate Shipment of etiologic agents and Importation Permits for etiologic agents, Publications, Guidelines, Information Sheets and instructions for Packaging and Shipping of Infectious Substances and Regulations and Standards pertaining to the transportation of infectious substances. The CDC is in the process of revising Transportation Regulation (42 CFR 72: Interstate Shipment of Etiologic Agents) to unify with other federal regulations.
The International Air Transportation Association (IATA) Guidance Document Infectious Substances provides guidance for complying with provisions applicable to the transport by air of infectious substances as set out in the 51st Edition (2010) of the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR).
