Biosafety

Biosafety – the discipline addressing the safe handling and containment of infectious microorganisms and hazardous biological materials

The principals of biosafety introduced in 1984 in the first edition of Biosafety in Microbiology and Biomedical Laboratories (BMBL) remain steadfast. These principles are containment and risk assessment. Understanding the principals of biosafety and adherence to the microbiological practices, containment and facility safeguards described in the fifth edition BLMB contribute to a safer and healthier working environment for laboratory staff, adjacent personnel and the community.(BMBL5)
