College of Education

The College of Education at Morehead State University is dedicated to preparing you to become the best educator you can be. Graduates of our programs become childcare providers, preschool, elementary, middle and high school teachers, as well as principals, guidance counselors, superintendents, higher education administrators and policy makers.

MSU offers a number of ways for you to earn your degree. From traditional lecture-based classes at our main campus and regional campus locations to our ever-expanding selection of online programs, MSU is sure to provide the right program options for you. Our small class sizes allow you to receive personal, one-on-one attention and mentoring from your professors to support your educational growth.

Explore our college and departmental webpages and learn how our variety of programs from bachelor’s to doctoral degrees can meet your needs and expectations. You have taken an important step in learning about the opportunities available through our department, and we hope you will contact us to arrange a campus visit. During a visit to our college you are welcome to sit in on classes and meet some of our faculty and students to discover all the MSU COE has to offer.

New English As A Second Language Endorsement

The College of Education is now offering an English as a Second Language Endorsement. In Kentucky and nationally, ESL is consistently identified as one of the greatest areas of teacher shortage. The program, which is offered exclusively online, enables teachers to complete the endorsement in one calendar year. The endorsement requires a valid teaching certificate, a passing score on the specialty PRAXIS examination and 12 hours of coursework. Learn more about our new and unique program and apply today.

21st Century Education Enterprise

At Morehead State University we care about our students and our service region. MSU’s 21st Century Education Enterprise is a not-for-profit organization within MSU’s College of Education. It was created to promote community partnerships with schools in our region and works to provide them with educational leadership, professional development and classroom technology innovations. As a student in the College of Education, you can be proactive in schools across the region and work to prepare students for college and career readiness through assisting with grant writing and preparing individualized and specific professional development plans and activities for schools that are partnered with MSU. Learn more about the College and Career Readiness Initiative.

Educational Service Unit for Child Care Services

MSU’s Educational Unit for Child Care Services prepares students to work in private childcare centers, Head Start programs, and public preschool programs. Our Child Development Associate (CDA) training program is offered on campus as well as at many off site locations in communities across the state. After taking the required six hours of course work required to apply, the CDA credential may be obtained in a center-based setting with a pre-school endorsement. Learn more about the CDA program as well as the Director Credential program.
