Alcohol/Other Drugs Policy

“No student student or visitor shall have in his or her possession or consume alcoholic beverages in public or on University owned or controlled grounds or exhibit drunken behavior on university property.” 2. Use, possess, or sell drug paraphernalia, marijuana, or any other legally controlled substance on University owned or controlled property.  The use, possession, transfer, or sale of drug paraphernalis, marijuana, controlled and/or illegal substance on University owned or controlled property, including residence halls, is prohibited."

The sanctions for violation of the University's alcohol policy are:

First violation:
Written reprimand to student
Probation* (15 academic weeks)
Education seminar ($10 materials and $15 administrative fees to be paid by student)
Parent/guardian notification by Dean of Students in cases of dependent student
Community restitution - 20 hours (to be completed as specified by a designated University official)
Meet with designated University staff member(s) as appropriate on an individual basis

Second violation:
Written reprimand to student
Probation* (30 academic weeks)
Community restitution - 40 hours (to be completed as specified by a designated Unviersity official)
Parent/guardian notification by Dean of Students in cases of dependent student
Assessment/counseling with certified substance abuse counselor
Loss of residence hall visitation privileges
Meet with designated University staff member(s) as appropriate on an individual basis

Third violation:
Parent/guardian notification by Dean of Students in cases of dependent student
Suspension or dismissal from residence hall or University

Continued violations:
Parent/guardian notification by Dean of Students in cases of dependent student
Suspension or dismissal from the University

*Violation of ANY University policy or Student Conduct Code constitutes a violation of probation.

In the event of an appeal of the sanction of eviction or suspension/dismissal, the student may be joined by parent(s) or guardian(s) in the appeals hearing.  Each case will be heard on an individual basis; i.e., eviction or suspension/dismissal could occur on the first offense if violation so warrants.
