Mathematics Placement Test
Incoming students at Morehead State who have an ACT subtest score in mathematics of less than 19 are required to take either the COMPASS Math, or the KYOTE placement test.
The KYOTE placement test is administered through MSU's Department of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Physics. For more information about taking the KYOTE, please call 606-783-2930.
Many college-level courses require students to have basic analysis skills and the ability to performing a sequence of mathematical operations. The COMPASS Mathemaitcs test is administered through Morehead State's Testing Center.The COMPASS math test is a multiple-choice test that will identify the math skills students need to succeed in college-level courses.
The COMPASS math test is focuses on five major content areas:
- numerical skills/prealgebra,
- algebra,
- college algebra,
- geometry, and
- trigonometry.
Morehead State University does not charge a fee for incoming students to take the COMPASS mathematics placement test. The COMPASS mathematics test is computer delivered and is 60 minutes.
Students are permitted to use calculators on the COMPASS Mathematics Tests. The calculators must, however, meet ACT’s specifications, which can be found on ACT’s website at http://www.act.org/aap/taking/calculator.html.
