English Placement Test

Incoming students at Morehead State who have an ACT subtest score in English of less than 18 are required to take the COMPASS e-Write placement test.

Many college-level courses are writing intensive. The COMPASS e-Write test is a multiple-choice test that will require the student to read one or more passages, each containing a number of errors. This will assess the student’s knowledge and skills in the usage and mechanics of writing, such as basic grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, etc. The test will also assess the student’s rhetorical skills, such as writing strategy, organization and style.

Morehead State University does not charge a fee for incoming students to take the COMPASS e-Write placement test. The COMPASS e-Write test is computer delivered and is 60 minutes.

More information about the COMPASS e-Write test can be found the ACT website at www.act.org/compass/tests/writingskills.html.
