Students accepted for admission to MSU who have ACT sub test scores (or equivalent SAT scores) of less than 19 on Mathematics, 18 on English, or 20 on Reading are placed in developmental courses to help them increase academic skills and success. In addition, various courses require ACT or SAT sub-test scores above 18, or completion of developmental courses. Following is a summary of developmental course scores and placements.
All developmental course requirements must be completed in the first 45 hours attempted at MSU. If requirements are not completed in the first 45 hours, a student will not be permitted to register for any other classes except developmental courses until they are completed.
Developmental courses are numbered below 100. They will not count toward the total hours needed for a degree. However, the credit hours count toward full-time status each semester, and the grades are included in student's grade point average
