MSU's College of Education is Much More than a Degree…

• Over 33,0000 hours of field experience were logged by students during the Fall 2014 semester. Students had field experience placements in 83 school districts, 10 states, and 1 foreign country.

• More than 62 teacher candidates, placed in 20 different counties throughout the Commonwealth, completed their Clinical Practice semester during the Fall 2014 semester.

• The median GPA of candidates admitted into our initial certification Teacher Education Programs in Fall 2014 was 3.41 on a 4.0 scale and the median GPA of program completers was 3.45.*

• The average PPST scores of candidates admitted into our initial certification Teacher Education Programs is: Math 172 (state requires 174); Reading 182 (state requires 176); and Writing 171 (state requires 174).*

• Our overall pass rate on the PRAXIS II exam is 98% for candidates in the undergraduate initial teacher education program and the first time pass rate on the PRAXIS II is 84%.**

• In the graduate Educational Leadership program, 100% of candidates passed the Kentucky Principal Test and 100% passed the School Leadership Licensure Assessment on the most recent reported test results. **

• Click to access the most recent New Teacher Survey results for Morehead State University which measures candidate satisfaction with program preparation. Candidates rated their satisfaction with MSU programs above or at the state average on 29 survey items and below the state average on 16 items.

• We have a Professional Partnership Network (PPN) with three elementary schools in Rowan County. Through this partnership, candidates spend three semesters working with mentoring teachers in a converse/diverse/immerse field experience model.

•  A teacher candidate from MSU’s Educator Preparation Programs was chosen as one of the commencement speakers for the spring graduation exercises. Brittany Campbell will receive a Bachelor of Arts in Middle Grades (5-9). 

•  More than $10,000 in Minority Educator Retention and Recruitment (MERR) Scholarships were awarded during 2014-15. Additional scholarships totaling $24,000 were awarded to education majors.

• More than 1400 students are enrolled in the undergraduate and graduate educator preparation programs in the College of Education and are served by more than 50 faculty members who are actively engaged in teaching, service, and scholarly activities.

• All educator preparation programs are approved by the Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board (EPSB) and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).

• Three education programs are ranked in the 25 most popular MSU undergraduate programs: Elementary Education P-5 (ranked #5), Special Education and P-5 (ranked #9), and Middle Grades (ranked #18).
• We offer 9 undergraduate programs that can be completed in four years.

• Our Advising Center has three full-time professional advisors to assist undergraduate students in successfully pursuing and completing educator preparation programs.

• We prepare almost 80% of educators in the 22-county service region of eastern Kentucky served by Morehead State University.

• Three graduates and one adjunct instructor have been named as 2013 KY Teacher Fellows by the Hope Street Group ( Tanya Jury is an 8th grade Language Arts teacher in Nelson County; Brad Clark is a teacher of the gifted in Woodford County; Joseph Harris teaches high school English in Lawrence County; Randy Barrette is an adjunct instructor in Educational Technology at MSU.

• We offer a variety of delivery models for our undergraduate and graduate courses and programs including those offered online and at regional campuses.
