Growing up in Morehead and Rowan County, it was a natural assumption for Mindy Highley that she would attend Morehead State University. Choosing a college was an easy decision. Choosing a department of study was not. Having been active in both the high school speech team and newspaper staff, she decided to visit the Department of Communications and found a home there.

Under the guidance of legendary faculty members like Harlen Hamm and David Brown, Mindy had a successful academic career. “I learned a tremendous amount from teachers like Mr. Hamm and Mr. Brown,” she said recently. “But I learned equally important professional and life skills from my involvement in activities outside the classroom.”

“I learned so many valuable things through my internships and workstudy positions, as well as through my involvement in the University’s speech team and my social sorority, ” she continued. “MSU gave me the opportunity to put all those components together and graduate with the knowledge I needed to be successful in my career.”

Upon completion of her Masters Degree, Mindy immediately began working in the University’s Development Office as the manager of the phonathon program. She has continued in that department ever since in varying positions and today serves as the Assistant Vice President for Alumni Relations & Development, as well as the Executive Vice President for the MSU Alumni Association. This role allows her to develop, plan, implement and oversee a comprehensive fundraising program that involves alumni, parents and friends of the University. She greatly enjoys assisting donors in providing financial support to enhance the lives of Morehead State University students.

She resides in Owingsville, with her husband Jeff and their children Zack and Emmy.
