We, the graduates and former students of Morehead State University, in our efforts to protect, support and generally promote the interests of Morehead State University do ordain and establish this constitution.


The Morehead State University Alumni Association, Inc., shall be operated exclusively for educational and charitable purposes. In furtherance thereof, the Association shall:

(1). Promote the welfare of Morehead State University.

(2). Maintain records and statistics of Morehead State University Alumni, both graduates and non-graduates.

(3). Make arrangements and plan special events for the benefit and enjoyment of Morehead State University Alumni.

(4). Assist the MSU Foundation, Inc., with the solicitation of private funds for the educational purposes of Morehead State University.

Article I – Name 

The name of this association shall be the Morehead State University Alumni Association, Inc., and henceforth termed Alumni Association or Association. Unless otherwise stated, the term President shall refer to the President of the Association. Unless the content requires otherwise, a word importing singular number only, may extend to several persons or things, as well as to one person or thing. Likewise, a word importing the masculine gender only, may extend and be applied to female as well as males.

Article II – Membership 

Section A.  General Membership. The membership of the Alumni Association shall consist of all people, graduates, and others who are actively involved in the support of Morehead State University and the Morehead State University Alumni Association, Inc. The regulations of the Alumni Association in relation to membership shall be developed and evaluated periodically by the Board of Directors of this Association.
Section B.   Active Membership. All persons and their spouses who have graduated (received a two or four year degree, a professional certification, or a graduate degree) from Morehead Normal School, Morehead State Normal School and Teacher’s College, Morehead State College and Morehead State University, are eligible for membership upon making a financial contribution to the MSU Foundation, Inc.  There is no minimum amount required. Individuals graduating for the first time from MSU shall be granted a complimentary membership for the following twelve (12) months.

Section C. Associate Membership. Present and former members of the administrative staff, former students who did not graduate, friends of the University, parents of all undergraduate students, and members of the Board of Regents who are not active members, are eligible for associate memberships upon making a financial contribution to the MSU Foundation, Inc. There is no minimum required.

Section D. Honorary Life Membership. May be given by a two-thirds vote of the Board of Directors to those persons who have rendered valuable or conspicuous service to the University or the Association.

Section E. By- laws. The by-laws of the Association may provide for other classes of membership in the Association.

Section F. Voting. The privilege of voting and holding office is limited to active members of Morehead State University Alumni Association, Inc. 

Article III – Officers 

The elected officers of this Association shall be President, President-elect, and Vice President. The appointed officers by virtue of all staff positions are Executive Vice President (Director of Alumni Relations) and Secretary – Treasurer (Secretary Specialist, Office of Alumni Relations). The President, President-elect, and Vice President shall be elected from the membership of the Board of Directors and shall serve terms of only (2) years.

Article IV 

The affairs and business of the Association shall be conducted by a Board of Directors. The Board of Directors shall consists of no more than twenty-five (25) people who are active members of the Alumni Association.  The election, appointment, term of office, and duties of the Board of Directors shall be provided for in the by-laws of the Alumni Association.

Article V – Executive Committee 

The routine business of the Association between meetings of the Board of Directors shall be conducted by the Executive Committee of the Board.  The Executive Committee shall be made up of the President, President-elect, Vice President, Executive Vice President, and Secretary-Treasurer.

 Article VI – Alumni Chapters (Clubs) 

All alumni chapters and/or clubs must consist of people who are members of the Morehead State University Alumni Association.

Article VII – Amendments 

The constitution may be amended by the Board of Directors by a two- thirds vote of the quorum present.  The membership will be informed of the amendment through Association publications.
