We are Home to the Following Programs

Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education (IECE)

As a student apart of this teacher certification program, you will be prepared to work with young children birth through kindergarten upon graduation. You can earn this certification at either the undergraduate level or at the graduate level through the Master of Arts in teaching program.

Elementary (P-5)

The Elementary (P-5) Education program is an undergraduate major which will prepare you to work in elementary schools.

Special Education (P-12) 

As a graduate of MSU’s Special Education (P-12) program you will work with either students with mild disabilities (learning and behavior disorders) or more severe learning difficulties (Moderate and Severe Disabilities). At the undergraduate level, all special education majors are also certified in either elementary or middle school education. At the graduate level, you can earn either of the special education certifications through the Master of Arts in Teaching.

In addition, the department offers the following options for individuals who do not wish to pursue teacher certification:

Child Development

This program runs in parallel with the IECE program and will prepare you to work in and manage private childcare programs.

Community Support Services

Upon graduation of this program, you will be prepared to work in community services for people with disabilities such as employment programs, group homes or other residential programs, or providing support services through Comprehensive Care Centers. This program also offers a minor appropriate for students who major in psychology, social work, or other human service programs which could lead to careers working with people with disabilities.

Child Development Associate

This training program for childcare workers offers nine hours of approved course work leading to the credential needed to work in licensed childcare facilities. The Educational Unit for Child Care Services manages this program.
