Research Interests:

Brown has presented at many international, national and state conferences. Her primary focus has been incorporating simulation to improve student learning. Currently she is working on developing a standardized evaluation tool for improving simulation student learning outcomes. She is also interested in developing and implementing Nurse Residency Programs at small community hospitals that will increase nurse recruitment and retention.

Brown published a chapter in Sheey’s Emergency Nursing Principles and Practices, NSNA’s Dean’s Notes and other small publications.

Amy Brown is 1999 MSU graduate who started her career in the ER at the University of Kentucky. She later managed the ER and ICU at Saint Joseph Mount Sterling (formerly Mary Chiles Hospital). After obtaining her MSN in 2005, Brown began teaching clinical for MSU and then joined the ADNP in the fall of 2006 as full-time faculty. Mrs. Brown has taught at all levels in the ADNP. She is currently teaching at the senior level and coordinates the senior practicum. She also teaches the Paramedic to RN transition course. Brown and other MSU faculty members travel to Haiti with nursing students each summer on a medical mission trip to enhance cultural awareness and pediatric experiences. Brown continues to maintain certifications in her field, such as ACLS, PALS and TNCC. She currently works PRN in the ER at Saint Joseph Mount Sterling and teaches courses such as PALS and TNCC to hospital staff.
