Amy Staton grew up in a small town west of Morehead. Growing up, she always had a passion for animals. After high school graduation and as a college student, she worked as a veterinary assistant. Staton graduated from MSU in 2003 with an associate degree in veterinary technology. She completed her preceptorship at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. In 2004, she earned a bachelor of science at MSU. After graduation, Staton worked as a veterinary technologist in large and small animal private practice. While working in private practice, she gained an interest in academia and pursed a masters degree, graduating in 2005. Most recently, Staton earned a Doctor of Education degree from MSU in December 2013.
Staton joined the veterinary technology team at MSU in the fall of 2008, bringing a wealth of real-world experience to the program. She currently instructs students in the areas of animal husbandry, radiology and surgical nursing. She is involved with both the large and small animal aspects of the program. Watching students transform into highly-qualified, skilled veterinary professionals, and knowing she played an active part in their transformation is the highlight of her career.
In her free time, Staton enjoys spending time with her family, being outside on the farm, water sports and traveling.
