Mathematics Placement Test

Incoming students at Morehead State who have an ACT subtest score in mathematics of less than 19 are required to take either the COMPASS Math or the KYOTE placement test.

The KYOTE placement test is administered through MSU's Department of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Physics. For information about taking the KYOTE test, call 606-783-2930.

The COMPASS math test is a multiple-choice test which will identify the math skills students need to succeed in college-level courses.

The COMPASS math test focuses on five major content areas:

  • numerical skills/pre-algebra
  • algebra
  • college algebra
  • geometry
  • trigonometry

Morehead State University does not charge a fee for incoming students to take the COMPASS mathematics placement test. The test is computer-based and lasts 60 minutes. Students are permitted to use calculators which meet ACT’s specifications. Additional information about the COMPASS math test can be found on the ACT website.
