February 2012- TCEE hosts Fulbright Scholar

21st Century Education Enterprise had the pleasure of hosting Mrs. Maris Montes, a high school principal from Uruguay February 4-16, 2012. Montes was awarded a fellowship from the U.S. Department of State to participate in the Educational Seminar: 2012 Uruguay Educator Exchange Program. Montes was one of sixteen educators selected from Uruguay to participate. She was hosted by Randy Barrette, Spanish and World Cultures teacher at Menifee County High School in Frenchburg, and an adjunct faculty for the College of Education at Morehead State University. Mr. Barrette is one of 15 U.S. Educators to be awarded a fellowship from the U.S. Department of State, and will travel to Uruguay for two weeks in the summer of 2012 for the reciprocal component of this exchange.
During her visit to Morehead State University, Montes visited the Center for Regional Development (CRE) and met with Director J. Marshall and Americorps volunteer, Rosita Napoleoni-Milan to discuss the current projects CRE implements in MSU's service region. Montes attended the 3rd Annual Space Movie Project held at MSU’s Space Science Center and enjoyed a tour of the Kentucky Folk Art Center and a faculty exhibit at Claypool-Young Art Building. To conclude her visit, Montes met with Dr. Kathy Gunn, the Dean of the College of Education, to learn more about MSU teacher preparation programs.

The Educational Seminar Programs are funded by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, which fosters mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries around the world through academic, cultural, and professional exchanges. Currently, Educational Seminars are administered with Argentina, Brazil, Greece, India, Italy, Mexico, Thailand and Uruguay. The program is implemented by American Councils for International Education.
