Mr. McCarty is a graduate of Berea College where he graduated with a degree in Agri-business.  After completing his undergraduate, Eric joined the work force and started working for the Institute for Regional Analysis and Public Policy (IRAPP).  He was hired as the Technical Support Consultant & Computer Labs Manager and worked on numerous projects that dealt with GIS and GPS technologies.  He worked on the Kentucky Height Mod projected which consisted of the installation of 4 real time GPS base stations.   These stations were placed in four locations throw out the state.  One located at the MSU main campus, in Reed Hall.  The second is located in Somerset at the Centre for Rural Development.  The third was located at Southeast Community College, Appalachian Center, Cumberland Kentucky.  The last was installed at Campbellsville University, Science Building, Campbellsville Kentucky.  Those four sites are still active and are currently being used by surveyors and researchers throughout the Commonwealth. 

Another project Mr. McCarty worked on was the Mapping Kentucky Historical Marker project.  This project dealt with the mapping of historical markers throw out the Commonwealth by giving middle school and high school age kids GPS units.  The teachers would come to one of the many trainings that were conducted throw out the Commonwealth that would instruct the teachers on the use of the GPS units and the material in the packet that needed to be filled out and sent back to us.  This project concluded with almost every county in the Commonwealth having a participating school system. 

Also during his time at IRAPP Mr. McCarty completed a Master’s of Science in Adult Education emphasis Agriculture.  During this time he conducted many trips with his sister helping her work on her dissertation about the Agricultural burning issues in the Southeast and the effects on air quality. 

Currently Mr. McCarty is working for the Dean of Science as the IT Services Coordinator/Technology Liaison.  In this current position Mr. McCarty helps in the day to day operations of the Center for Health and Education Research (CHER) building.  He maintains the Multi-media lab/testing center and works with technology issues that arise throw out the building.  He helps the Simulation Coordinator with the simulation procedures that help the students prepare for real world situations. 

In his spare time Mr. McCarty has a working farm that he manages with his wife.  He continues to research ways Kentucky farmers can use new technologies to become more profitable.  He is a member of AQHA, National Cattleman’s Association, and a member of the ABEL board for Rowan County.  He also enjoys the occasional hunting and fishing outing.
