2014 DISTINGUISHED TEACHER AWARD
The Professional Development Committee requests nominations for the annual Distinguished Teacher Award. Any Morehead State University faculty member meeting both eligibility requirements below can be nominated:
Faculty members whose primary responsibility is teaching, and who have earned tenure or special status.
Faculty members who are not previous recipients of the Distinguished Faculty Award or Distinguished Teacher Award.
Nominations may be made by anyone. A nomination must include the name, address, and telephone number(s) of the nominator, as well as, a letter of support (one page) for the nominee addressing briefly the person's qualifications in reference to the criteria below:
Fosters a desire for learning by challenging students to reach their potential;
Displays enthusiasm for teaching;
Demonstrates teaching behaviors and creates instructional environments which promote learning;
Works to stimulate students' scholarly and/or creative activity;
Applies current knowledge of his/her field to instructional activity.

November 19 - PART 2: The Nuts-and-Bolts of Organizing a Study Abroad Trip
Co-Presenters: Dr. Jim Masterson and Dr. Royal Berglee
- Program Description: Are you interested in organizing an overseas trip including courses and short-term experiences? Drs. Masterson and Berglee will share their personal insights, as well as, MSU policies and procedures. Topics to be covered include: MSU's guidelines for study abroad trips and the trip proposal application, risk management issues, financial aid opportunities for potential students, plus a variety of useful forms to make the planning, implementation and evaluation processes easier.

THE GOAL IS FAIRNESS: A WORKSHOP FOR IMPROVING THE TENURE REVIEW PROCESS

All tenured faculty and department chairs are invited to participate in a half-day workshop focusing on tenure evaluation, namely how to improve the process. Topics to be covered include: (1) consequences of failing to follow tenure procedures; (2) need to clarity in tenure standards; (3) dealing with unanticipated information during the review process; and (4) need for candor in the evaluation of tenure-track faculty.
This workshop will also cover the legal liability that can be incurred when evaluating tenure-track faculty. Tenured faculty and department chairs will learn how to protect themselves from these legal claims while ensuring fairness within the tenure process. Lectures and discussion will be combined with case studies.

To provide coordination and support to the faculty and professional staff at all points in their career and in all the aspects of faculty life, be it teaching, scholarship (in all forms), and service. The CLPD participates in and monitors the creation of functional shared governance processes and coordinates faculty involvement in policy making for those policies directly affecting faculty activities.
