Chemistry Student Awarded Prestigious Fellowship To Conduct
Research in France
Ms. Kasandra Lambert, a chemistry
major, has been awarded a fellowship to conduct research in the laboratory of
Dr. Roland Stote, who heads the Laboratoire de Biophysicochimie Moléculaire in
the Institute for Chemistry at the Université Louis Pasteur/CNRS in Strasbourg,
France. Dr. Stote is a physical biochemist, studying structure, dynamics
and thermodynamics of proteins and complexes. While in France, Kasandra
will conduct research in this area with the intent of elucidating the structure
of specific protein:protein interactions such that drugs may be designed to
inhibit or accelerate these interactions. Kasandra won the award in
competition with other chemistry students from around the world. The
award is made through the Research Experiences for Undergraduates program
sponsored by the National Science Foundation and Chemistry Department at the
University of Florida. This is an exceptional opportunity for Kasandra
and the faculty and staff of the Biology & Chemistry department
congratulate her for this achievement. Ms. Lambert currently conducts
research in the laboratories of Dr. Janelle Hare in Biology and Dr. Ann MacIntosh
in Chemistry. She is also the current president of the Student Members of the
American Chemical Society.
