Career Selection
Morehead State University has a quality academic program, the facilities and faculty to prepare a student for medical school. The student's scholarly ability and motivation combined with student awareness of medical profession demands are significant factors for success. A combination of high composite ACT plus high Math ACT scores has been a good predictor of academic success in the premedical program.
The educational/training requirements for a physician basically includes four years of premedical undergraduate school, four years of medical school, and a minimum of three additional years of graduate medical education (residency) in an area of specialization.

Program of Study
A student that is unconditionally admitted to the University may select to participate in the premedical program of study. Admission requirements vary among medical schools, but all medical schools recognize the importance of a strong foundation in the natural sciences (biology, general and organic chemistry, mathematics, and physics), highly developed communication and thinking skills, and a good background in the social sciences and humanities. Competencies in these areas should be developed before taking the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT).
Many premedical students major in biology and minor in chemistry. Other options are acceptable and may be completed with the aid of the premedical advisor. Click on the following document which provides more comprehensive information about our program: Premedical Program
