ABOUT THE BAIRD WINDS
The Baird Winds has been an artist-ensemble-in-residence in the Department of Music at Morehead State University for over three decades. The members of the ensemble are music faculty members at MSU.
With over 30 years of performing history, the Baird Winds has given numerous concerts thoughout Kentucky, West Virginia, and Ohio. These performances include educational concerts, arts series concerts, appearances at Kentucky Music Educators Association Conferences, and concerts on the campus of Morehead State University. The wide variety of music performed by the Baird Winds includes the most important original chamber works for wind quintet as well as transcriptions of popular music and jazz.
The ensemble derives its name from the building in which they work, Baird Music Hall. Baird Music Hall is named after former MSU president Dr, Jesse Baird. It was Dr. Baird's vision to have a building to house the University's growing Department of Music.
Morehead State University is located in the hills of northeastern Kentucky and is a regional public university. For several years, MSU has been listed in U.S. News and world Report as one of the top 25 pulbic college or universities in the Southeast.
