Outstanding Undergraduate Student in Social Studies
Carolyn Enders is majoring in secondary education in the area of Social Studies. She is from Flatwoods, Kentucky. She is a member of the National Honors Society, president of Phi Alpha Theta, and vice-president of the History Club. She has been involved in the Kentucky History Day, MSU Concert Choir, and the MSU Newman Center. Carolyn feels that teaching is her passion and hopes to use her interests in music, her experiences with travelling abroad, and her love of different cultures to influence students in her future classroom.

Mary Lynne Albers Memorial Scholarship Award
Shannon Callihan, of Raceland, Kentucky, is the daughter of Sherry Callihan and is a 2010 graduate of Russell High School. Callihan is currently majoring in Sport Management with a Minor in Music. As a Music Minor, Callihan is Principal Oboe in the MSU Symphony Band and will be touring China with the band this May. She has also participated in the MSU Marching Band and MSU Orchestra. Shannon recently attended and performed at the Thomas Stacy English Horn Master Class, at Marshall University. Her private oboe instructor is Dr. John Viton, Associate Professor of Music. Callihan is also a recipient of the John Philip Sousa award, granted to the top student in high school band recognizing superior musicianship and outstanding dedication. During the past year at Morehead State, Shannon has been the Director’s Administrative Assistant at the Center for Leadership and Professional Development.

Outstanding Student in Social Work
Mary Cochran received her Associates degree from Ashland Community and Technical College (ACTC) in 2010. While attending ACTC, Mary became interested in the Social Work Program because of her desire to help families. Mary, and her husband Richard, have a 26-year-old daughter Stacy and a 16-year-old son Richard. Mary is originally from Texas, but has lived in Kentucky for the past fifteen years. She and her family currently live in Ashland, KY. Mary has maintained a 4.0 grade point average in her coursework at Morehead State University (MSU), and has a combined grade point average of 3.9. Mary states that attending MSU has been a great experience and the Social Work courses she has taken thus far have been a tremendous help to her both personally and professionally.

Pinnacle Honor Society
Pinnacle is a nationally recognized honor society for Non-Traditional Students. Pinnacle issues charters to accredited colleges and universities, which in turn, select outstanding adult and other non-traditional seniors and "rising seniors" for recognition at the local and national level. Morehead State University has been a Pinnacle chartered institution since 1991. To be considered for induction into Pinnacle, students must meet criteria that include junior or senior status, 25 years of age or older, possession of a 3.0 or higher cumulative G.P.A., involvement in at least 3 campus or community activities while a student, 17 demonstrated leadership, persistence and future promise, and the maintenance of the highest of ethical standards. Students can only be selected for membership following a thorough screening by a campus selection committee comprised of MSU non-traditional students, faculty, and staff.
* Barbara Calhoun, who resides in Raceland with her husband, is originally from Los Angeles, California. Barbara, a licensed Veterinary Technician after earning her Associate Degree in Veterinary Technology from MSU in 1984, is pursuing a Bachelor of University Studies degree, which she plans to complete in 2013.
*James Gillum, who resides in Ashland with his wife, has two children, one of which is a senior at Ball State University. James is a senior pursuing a Bachelor of Social Work degree, which he plans to complete in December 2012.
* Kasie Lee Moore, who resides in Catlettsburg, is a senior pursuing a Bachelor of Social Work degree, which she plans to complete in December 2012.
*Kristina Lynn Vanover, who is originally from Ohio and now resides in Flatwoods, is a senior pursuing a degree in Elementary Education, P-5, which she plans to complete in May 2012.
