The Morehead-Rowan County Chamber of Commerce is partnering with Morehead State University to recognize outstanding members of our community for the third straight year. The “Excellence in Civic Engagement Awards” will recognize people dedicated to making Rowan County a better place to live through their service to the community or a community organization.

There are nine categories for Excellence in Civic Engagement Awards including an elementary or middle school student, a high school student, a community member, a community organization, a community business, a MSU student, a MSU faculty or staff member, a MSU student organization, and a MSU service learning class project. The awards for elementary, middle and high school students are new additions this year. Parents, teachers and leaders of youth organizations are encouraged to nominate deserving students.

Award recipients will be recognized at the main stage program for “Constitution Day”—formerly known as “Septemberfest.”  This event will be at the Morehead Conference Center at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 17. Winners will receive a plaque and the non-profit agency of their choice will receive a $100 honorarium underwritten by the MSU Center for Regional Engagement.  Tracy Williams at the Chamber of Commerce is coordinating the committee to select award recipients.

To nominate individuals, community organizations and businesses complete and return the application form at http://moreheadstate.edu/adp/index.aspx?id=35742. The application requests a one-page narrative describing why the nominee deserves the award. The deadline for nominations is Friday, Sept. 4 at 4 p.m. Deliver nominations to the Morehead-Rowan County Chamber of Commerce by mail, email, fax or in person. Their address is 150 East Main Street. Email is tcwilliams@moreheadchamber.com. Fax is 783-1373.
